We leave early in the morning from Bahia Salinas, drive to the border and from the Nicaraguan side we have a private shuttle that will drive us to our secret spot in Nicaragua lake. We will be getting there around 9am, we will pump our kites and get in the water!!! We can arrange the transportation back to Costa Rica on the same day or stay overnight.

This is an ideal option for those days when the wind is too strong.

Kitesurf is still consider an extreme sport, that is why kiteboarding profesional recommend to get started on this sport but an specialised school and qualified instructors. IKO instructor are trained and have the experience to guide you thru this sport on a safe way, avoiding unnecessary risks. Kitesurf safety is our main concern!

At our kiteboarding school in bahía Salinas (Costa Rica), our main concern is kitesurf safety, regarding the student and other riders in the water. That is why we are the only school in the area that provides helmets on every lesson and water shoes for those uncomfortable with shells, stones or other things at the beach, all of this is included on the lesson/rental price.

We want all of our students to become independent self sufficient kiteboarders and our lessons are oriented on that direction. We want you to know how to come back to shore if something happens or he wind dies, what do in case of accident, self rescue…

Safety is Costa-kite’s philosophy, since the first lesson we point out the hazards at the beach, the different kinds of wind, when you can and when you cannot go in the water, the tides, the gusts… And how to react to each of this elements.

Many of our customers ask us about a way to get to us by public transport from La Cruz.  To get to:

  • Our spot in Bahia Salians, you have to take the Bus La Cruz – El Jobo at La cruz main bus station. You should tell the driver to stop at Copal beach. From there it is just a 5min walk.
  • If you want to get to the Kite VIlla tell the driver to stop at Costakite Office or Restaurante El Cenizaro (jobo). You will see the signs along the road.

There are direct flights connecting different points of the usa and Liberia (Costa Rica). Most flights operate daily. Liberia International Airport (LIB), Daniel Oduber Quirós, is just 70km form our spot (Bahia Salinas) in Guanacaste.

There are direc flights USA to Liberia from the following cities: Miami, Houston, Atlanta, Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, Charlotte Douglas and Chicago.

  • MIAMI (MIA)

2 flights per day, everyday: 11:15h and 18:20h, duration 2H50.

  • HOUSTON (IAM)

3 flights per day, everyday: 8:57h, 10:35h and 15:42h, On weekends there is an extra flight at 11:27h. Duration 3H35.

Operated by United Airlines, Lufthansa and Southwest.

  • LOS ANGELES (LAX).

1 flight per day, everyday. One extra flight on weekends: 23:57h and 8:40h. Duration 5H30.

Operated by Delta and Alaska.

  • NUEVA YORK (JFK / EWR).

There are direct fights everyday, except on Mondays. Saturdays there are up to 5 flights connecting the 2 cities. The departure time Tuesday to Friday and Sunday are: 8:45h and 9:43h. On Saturday we have the same than before (8:45h and 9:43) and 3 more flights: 7:00h, 11:30h and 16h. The flight duration is 5H20.

The airlines operating from New York to Liberia are: United Airlines, Lufthansa, Delta and JetBlue.

Direct flights everyday at 10:00h adding one more on Saturdays at 17:30h. Duration 4H

London to Costa Rica

British airways has just opened a new flight from London to Costa Rica (San Jose), this is great news for all our British and other european willing to come visit us!!

The flights will initially leave Gatwick on Wednesday and Saturday at 11.55am and 11am respectively, arriving in San Jose at 3.45pm and 2.50pm respectively, and take an average flying time of 10 hours and 50 minutes.

When the third flight starts in winter (windy season), the departures will move to Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, departing at 10.15am on a Tuesday and Saturday, arriving in Costa Rica at 3:35pm, and departing at 11.25am on Thursday, arriving in to Costa Rica at 4.45pm. Flight times during the winter months will be 11 hours and 20 minutes.

Most windy place in central America

What is the most windy place in Central america? Well the stats talk for itself Bahia Salinas in Costa Rica leads this ranking.

Based on last season data, during our windy season (Nov 2014-May 2015) we had only 23 non windy days out of 243, that means we had 220 windy days!!! an average of more than 90%!!!

This makes Bahia Salinas a great place to guarantee the those days you have been waiting the whole year don’t let you down!! The wind is guaranteed!!

January Is the best month were every day was a kite day thanks to the consistent wind. On second place we find March with only one no windy day and on third place February and May (2 non windy days)

This is something every kiter should know how to do. While you are learning with us you will be safe and supervised, but there is a time when you will have to ride on your ow right? We teach you to ride on a safe way, but we always have to be prepared for the unexpected, what if your gear breaks? or if the wind dyes and you are far from the shore?

Costa Rica is one of the most beautiful countries in the world, with more than 1200 km of coast between Pacific and Caribbean. With only 0.03% of the global land area, Costa Rica holds 6% of the biodiversity of our planet. The system of parks and protected areas cover 25% of the country, the largest in the world in percentage. Costa Rica has 13 volcanoes on its terretorio, ideal for trekking and hiking.

You can do Kiteboarding in the Pacific in Bahia Salinas, is located in the province of Guanacaste, near the city of La Cruz. This bay is in a place where the wind extrategic from Nicaragua, constantly hits Salinas Bay from November to April. These winds are constant during each day of the season, so it is most unlikely to come to Bahia Salinas during this time and have no wind. This constant Salinas Bay makes it a perfect place for kiteboarding in the Pacific to Costa Rica and Central America.

Being in a bay, the water is fairly quiet and with an excellent temperature all year round, so you don´t need neoprene to kiteboardin in the Pacific in Costa Rica. The sea in Bahia Salinas is loaded with nutrients, hence the wealth of water that attract large numbers of seabirds, turtles and large humpback whales.

One of the great attractions of Bahia Salinas, is the location of the Island Bolaños right in the middle of the bay, is a wildlife refuge and in turn a sanctuary for sea birds. I have small white sand beaches ideal to visit with our kite.

Our kiteboarding school is located in Salinas Bay, exactly inPlaya Copal. The aim of our kiteboarding school Costa Kite is that our students learn to kitesurf safely and totally fun in one of the best spot to do Kitebording in the Pacific in Costa Rica.
